SLPA celebrates 27th anniversary

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority(SLPA) celebrated the 27th anniversary last Tuesday, prioritising the employees' welfare.

Ports and Aviation Deputy Minister Tissera Dayasritha said the Colombo Port is the commercial hub in the region. It has a reputation of being one of the most customer-friendly and efficient Ports in the region". We should strive to improve while sategarding our image. All employees should be committed to this cause.

The opening of welfare building at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and Phase two of the proposed housing project at Bloemendhal road and the foundation laying ceremony for a Buddhist shrine at the Ports Chaithiya premises also took place.

Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake said the SLPA had contributed towards the employees' welfare by carrying out a number of urban and rural development programmes.

He urged employees to work together with dedication to boost the productivity of the port.

SLPA Chairman Saliya Wickremasuriya said the Authority had gained higher productivity levels during the past period under the guidance of Minister Mangala Samaraweera.

The Port had handled 1430517 TEUs during the first six months as against 1173725 TEUs in the corresponding period of last year. Colombo, Galle and Trincomalee Ports had handled 5428294 metric tons of conventional cargo in comparison with last year's figures of 4838611 metric tons with a growth of 12.2%.
