The leading Chinese Shipping Line COSCO which made a Terminal Shipping Agreement (TSA) recently with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) made its new main line service at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT).

The new Europe Service conveyed by partners COSCO and Hanjin with 5500 TEU capacity vessels comprises three vessels from COSCO and five vessels from Hanjin.

Chairman, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Dilipa Wijesundara aboard the 5446 TEU capacity container vessel, "Chuan He" which made its maiden call at the JCT, took part in the traditional exchange of plaques with the ship's Master, Capt. Li Fuehair.

The port rotation of the new service will be Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Port Klang, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Le Havre and Colombo.

COSCO, a shipping group with over 600 vessels operates over 120 container vessels.

The keen supervision, observation, sustaining high crane and vessel productivity levels and new marketing strategies introduced by the Business Development Division under Executive Director, Dr. Irshad Musheen of the SLPA, have attracted many other giant shipping lines, such as Evergreen, Zim Goldstar, Maersk Sealand and Hanjin who have expressed confidence and signed agreements to extend their services at the JCT.

Productivity levels at the JCT have seen a dramatic increase during the last few months.
