 State Minister for Economic Affairs and Labour of Hamburg meets SLPA Chairman
Faith expressed to bring more collaboration between Hamburg and Colombo.

A German delegation headed by Mr. Ian Kiru Karan State Minister (Senator)  For Economic Affairs and Labour, City of Hamburg in Germany,  Visited Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) recently and had discussions with Dr.Priyath B. Wickrama, the  Chairman of SLPA on extending assistance and support regarding  working in closer coordination in port activities. The Senator expressed strong faith to bring more collaboration to thorough  port related activities between Hamburg and Colombo.   

Mr. Ian Kiru Karan, born in 1939, in Point Pedro in Sri Lanka currently holds British and German Nationality. At present, he bears the memberships in the Board of the Hamburg Port Authority, Board of the Hamburg Football Association, Board of the Society for Promotion of the Cardiac Centre of the University Hospital and also is the Chairman of the Board of the Society for the Promotion of the Hamburg School of Business Administration. He is a highly active philanthropist in the field of arts, music, sports and youth projects in the city of Hamburg.  

Following the discussions with Dr.Priyath B. Wickrama, the Chairman of SLPA, Mr.Karan also made an exclusive inspection visit at the rapidly growing Colombo Port Expansion Project. The constructions of the breakwater of the CPEP is on schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Following the terminal building thereafter, it will be operational by early 2013.  

Also earlier to the  visit at SLPA, both Senator Karan and German MP Klimke paid a courtesy call to His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa  in Kandy.
