Last year, the SLPA team stepped up to become the runners-up and this year the team played with tremendous spirit to clinch the title. Twenty two [22] high-spirited teams, competed fiercely, at the tournament, which spanned over two months of spectacular play, on a knock-out basis, played on a foursome format.

This is the 99th year of the Shakspeare Shield tournament, the first corporate-sponsored event of the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), awarded annually, since 1911.
The Shakespeare shield, was awarded, in honour of a former Chairman, Mr. William Shakspeare, by Messrs. Carson and Company and is considered the most prestigious corporate-sponsored board event, at the Royal Colombo Golf Club(RCGC).
The Company, having changed hands with several mergers and acquisitions since its inception 1856, is presently known as Messrs. Carson Cumberbatch PLC.
Throughout its long history, many corporate bodies and institutions were represented and the trophy won by numerous entities, as are seen on the board in the Governor’s Bar at RCGC. The names of Capt. Keppetipola and Mithun Perera representing SLPA will be inscribed on the board as winners for 2010.
RCGC will be celebrating the centenary of this grand event in 2011 and expect the tournament to be organized on a much larger scale, with more participation and a keen tussle for the title, is anticipated.
At a special awards ceremony held on the 17th September 2010, this prestigious “Shakspeare Shield” was awarded to the winners on this 99th occasion, by Ken Sellayah, a Director of the Carson’s Group.
