Colombo call by Mega SIMATECH carrier

Mv. Sima Giselle docked at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) of Sri Lanka Ports Authority. 

SIMATECH Shipping LLC, the world's 27th largest carrier (Alphaliner - October 2015 ranking) celebrated its brand new Mv. Sima Giselle's maiden port call here on October 19 at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). 

The Chinese built Mv. Sima Giselle which is Singapore flagged is operated in the AGI (Asean - Gulf - Isc) is the largest vessel in the SIMATECH owned fleet. It is considered the largest feeder vessel owned and operated by a common carrier feeder operator with a capacity of 4,400 TEUs. 

Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Shipping L.P. Jayampathi and Additional Secretary Mrs. Kanthi Perera, along with the Chairman SLPA Mr. Dammika Ranatunga, Vice Chairman Dr. Prasanna Perera, Executive Director Mr. Sanjeewa Wijeratne, the Director (Operations) Mr.Upali De Zoysa, Director (Finance) of SLPA - Mrs. Shirani Wanniarachchi and senior officials boarded the vessel when it docked in Colombo. 

SLPA Chairman Ranatunga exchanging plaques with the Master of the vessel and Managing Director of its agent here thanked the line for its initiatives to connect the ISC ports with Sri Lanka and congratulated SIMATECH on its rapid growth in recent years. 

He assured best practises and maintaining industry standards in Colombo saying "we will do our best to make the callers' stay comfortable with facilities for maximum productivity through timely operations here in Colombo." 

Mr. Saliya Senanayake, Managing Director of SIMATECH Marine Lanka thanked SLPA for its initiatives and support to help business growth and commended the Authority on productivity improvements and efforts to improve the turnaround of vessels calling at JCT. Simatech strongly believes that Colombo will play even bigger role in the future as a regional hub with mega ships of the major carriers on the East-West route calling here, he said. 

SIMATECH Shipping LLC is based in Dubai, with regional offices in Singapore and India. It is the leading Common Carrier Feeder Operator at port of Jebel Ali (Dubai hub). It operates over 21 services with its own fleet of 12 vessels and 16 charted vessels. 

Simatech is the second largest Common Carrier Feeder Operator to Colombo operating over nine dedicated weekly services accounting for over 10% of the volumes handled at JCT. 

Colombo is the strategic hub port for Gulf and Indian Sub-Continent ports which Simatech serves directly.
