Hon.Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Convenes Ministry & Port Officials to Draft 100 Day Port Programme

Hon.Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga in discussions with the  officials of the plans to be implemented during the 100 day programme for the ports and shipping sector. Hon.Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga recently convened a special meeting  for the Ministry officials headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, newly appointed Board of Directors and higher Executive Staff Members of  Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), officials of the Ceylon Shipping Corporation ltd;  and officials headed by Director Merchant Shipping   to discuss of drafting an effective programme for the shipping and port sector  to assist the 100 day development programme of the present government of His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena.  The meeting was held at the ministry of Port, Shipping and Aviation.

The programme drafted by Sri  Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) in this regard collaboratively will identify both short and long term implementations to effectively launch its developmental and institutional procedures and activities aiming greater development with transparency. 

Expressing views at the occasion Hon.Minister of  Ports, Shipping and Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga stated that the programme to be drafted in this regard should be a meaningful and effective arrangement  that fulfills the public and national requirements under the 100 day programme of the government.  “His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena and Hon.Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe are extremely keen on the success of the 100 day programme and the port sector should draw immediate attention to accomplish the final draft following discussions to forward to relevant institutions,” the Minister said. 

The matters pertaining to the ongoing   developments at the Colombo Port and the Colombo Port Expansion Project,  Hambantota MRMR Port, Trincomalee, Galle and Oluvil Ports as well as the proposed cargo village and the Head Office Building for SLPA  were also discussed.

Asitha Wijesekara,  Managing Director Capt.Nihal Keppetipola,  Mr.J.K.P.Kurukulasuriya – Additional Managing Director of SLPA,  Mr.A.W.Seneviratne – Director General of Merchant Shipping and higher officials of relevant shipping and port related institutions  were also present at the occasion.
