Mega   RO-RO Car Truck Carrier MV CSCC ASIA Makes
 Maiden Call At SLPA

The mega RO-RO Car Truck Carrier of 200 metres, MV CSCC ASIA of the ‘K’-Line recently made her maiden call at the Port of Colombo and handled at the Guide Pier managed by Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).  CSCC ASIA, with a gross tonnage of 57,692 tons and a cargo capacity of 6,677 units sails under the Bahamas flag.

‘K’ Line is a pioneer maritime transporter of automobiles providing safe and speedy transportation service in the business of owning and operating car carriers. As early as 1970, Toyota Maru No.10 of the ‘K’ Line was placed into the service as Japan’s first specialized car carrier. Constant and positive efforts have been continuously practiced for strengthening the fleet of the ‘K’ Line and upgrading the quality of its service. ‘K’ Line owns and operates containers, automobile carriers, dry bulk carriers and also LNG carriers.

‘K’ Line has also been endeavoring to innovatively reinforce its car carrier fleet with in-depth consideration to environmental preservation in particular, as well as to perform service in the handling of complete cars that is entirely damage free at all times during loading and discharging operations as well as during ocean navigation.

From the viewpoint of oil pollution prevention, and environmental preservation, they have adopted a new method in which fuel and bunker oil tanks are designed to be placed within a triple-bottom structure. The new method is expected to increase protective capabilities of the tanks when a ship’s hull is damaged.

In the year 2008 ‘K’ Line handled the highest amount of domestic automobile and transshipment total at the Port of Colombo. It also made the highest total transshipment loading to West African Ports in 2008.

‘K’ Line car carrier division also arranges training and awareness programmes for port operators targeting zero damage to automobiles, where SLPA staff has also been offered to undergo the training.

ABC Shipping (Pvt.) Ltd. is the local agents for ‘K’ Line, in Sri Lanka.
