Sri Lanka Ports Chairman appointed as a vice president of the IAPH

Sri Lanka’s Ports Chairman Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama has been elected as the 3rd vice president of the Tokyo based International Association of Ports and Harbors.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority says Wickrama was elected to this position during the recent IAPH World Conference which was  held in Los Angeles, USA.

“Dr. Wickrama becomes the first Sri Lankan to be elected to an IAPH presidency position. He is also the youngest person to take over this position in IAPH”, a statement from the SLPA said.

“Having been involved in the activities of the IAPH as an active member since 2005, there is no doubt, that through my long years of experience and hard work, I could make an exceptional personal contribution to revamp and reinvigorate the development of the maritime industry in the Asian/Oceania region”, Wickrama was quoted in the SLPA statement.

Dr. Wickrama, who has joined the Sri Lanka Ports Authority as a Mechanical Engineer in 2001 was subsequently promoted to the post of Executive Director in 2004.

He was elevated to the post of Chairman of the SLPA under the government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Dr. Wickrama has obtained his doctoral degree in Operations Management from the International University of America in the United Kingdom.
